Kick start your summer at Thousand Trails and Encore campgrounds this May! Whether you’re hanging by the pool, entering your pet in a costume contest, or celebrating alongside our Canadian friends for Victoria Day, there’s something for everyone every weekend. Check out what’s in store for this month and be sure to also refer to your 2017-2018 Theme Weekends guide to help you plan your next camping adventure!

On-Site Events


Summertime is the season for barbecues and potlucks! Get together for this summertime tradition with your friends this May!
The Recreation Center at Bend-Sunriver (OR) will be your headquarters for the Western BBQ and Western games and Haystack Dive the weekend of May 27. We will have musical entertainment one night and Western Bingo another night. Memorial Day Weekend is a member appreciation weekend at Orlando (FL) and they're kicking off the summer season with a BBQ Pool Party on Saturday, May 27. Join us at Cultus Lake (BC) on Saturday May 27 to celebrate the American Memorial Day Weekend and Member Appreciation Day for Thousand Trails. Saturday's dinner will feature a half rack BBQ pork ribs with the trimmings (while supplies last). Sign-up sheet in Clubhouse hallway! Memorial Day weekend begins with a BBQ dinner on Friday May 26 at San Benito (CA) then wind down with s'mores around a communal campfire on Sunday. And kick off summer fun Memorial Day Weekend with the folks at Carolina Landing (SC) with a Member Appreciation BBQ by the pool on Saturday afternoon!

Blossoming at Thousand Trails

Come to the Activity Center at Colorado River (TX) and help to plant some flowers on the campground plus walk our Yellow Post Trail! Get together with the folks at Kenisee Lake (OH) to help plant the new community garden on Saturday May 20 and Sunday May 21. May 20-21 is beautification weekend at Lynchburg (VA)! Get your sites ready or just relax and enjoy the park. Come on down to Sea Pines (NJ) during Ready to Camp Weekend, May 12-14 and clean up your site for the wonderful camping season ahead! After the cleanup is finished, relax with a campfire – we look forward to seeing you!

Armed Forces Day

Pay tribute to the armed forces with your fellow campers this May. Armed Forces Day is on May 20, 2017.
The folks at Lake Minden (TX) will be honoring our troops and also hosting the Lake Minden Artist Exhibit that weekend. Salute the flag and honor those who have served at the flag ceremony at Lake Whitney (TX) on May 20. Join us at Lake Conroe (TX) for a social hour on Saturday, May 20 as we show our appreciation for your dedication and service to our country. There will be card-making for veterans in nursing homes and to servicemen and women serving around the world at Rondout Valley (NY), plus a free pancake breakfast on Saturday, May 20 from 9AM-10:30AM. Thousand Trails members and guests at Natchez Trace (TN) will celebrate the armed forces with movies, crafts, and more! Veterans come and stay with us at Tranquil Timbers (WI) free this weekend and don't forget to thank your servicemen for all they have done for us! Join us for some activities on Saturday and bring your running shoes for some outdoor military games!

Victoria Day

Celebrate alongside your Canadian friends for Fête de la Reine, or Victoria Day, the Canadian holiday honoring Queen Victoria's birthday.
Cultus Lake (BC) will celebrate Victoria Day all weekend long! With a potluck on Saturday evening,
plus an evening of dancing with the Hong Kong Cowboy. Participate in the afternoon horseshoes tournament and barbecue on Sunday, just meet at the horseshoe Pits! Join the folks at Birch Bay (WA) to make kids crowns on Saturday for the celebration. Remember to bring your crowns to the potluck birthday party honoring Queen Victoria on Sunday, May 21. Over at Mount Vernon (WA), we'll be celebrating Victoria Day with our neighbors from the North with an Ice Cream Social and cake fit for a queen! Let La Conner (WA) treat you to a birthday party as well. And, at Grandy Creek (WA), there will be games, tie-dye, crafts, movies on the lawn, plus breakfast on Saturday and Sunday!

Tea Party for Mom

Our mom's deserve the special treatment! Treat mom to a tea party in her honor! Mother's Day is Sunday May 14.
Natchez Trace (TN) will host their annual Mother's Day Tea Party and moms eat free at the pancake breakfast on Sunday morning. Bring your mom to the Victorian Tea Party at Ponderosa (CA) on May 13 and don't forget that kids can go to the family lodge to make Mother's Day cards. Bring Mom down to San Benito (CA) and show her the love – join us for a tea party as we celebrate our beloved Mothers on Sunday plus, To thank our Moms for everything, all Moms will receive a free dessert when ordering Friday night dinner. Don't miss a Mother's Day Delight at Snowflower (CA) with roses, pink cupcakes, coffee and tea! All Moms will receive a carnation at the free Mother's Day Tea Party at Timothy Lake North & South (PA).

Pool Openings!

Splish splash! Time to get in the pool and let summer at Thousand Trails and Encore begin!
Join us at Chestnut Lake (NJ) for the Official Pool Opening on Memorial Day weekend. Music, games, pie-eating contest, root beer floats, and Patriotic crafts. Shake off the winter blues and come to Moody Beach (ME) for Memorial Day weekend! Take the first dip in the pool or spa and enjoy our Member Appreciation events! May 26-29 is opening weekend for pools as well as a full schedule of pickleball, cornhole and horseshoe tournaments, bingo, a craft sale, band and DJ entertainment at Chesapeake Bay (VA). We are also treating all of our awesome members to a free Member Appreciation lunch! Let's kick off summer with the opening of our pool and splash pad at Soledad Canyon (CA) Memorial Day Weekend. BBQ Potluck and cake to show our appreciation to our veterans and members. The pool at Lynchburg (VA) also opens Memorial Day Weekend and Madadd will do some live music at the pool all afternoon on Sunday.

Movie Madness

Movies under the stars are a summertime classic.
May the force be with you at Circle M (PA) and join in on the Star Wars Movie Marathon on Star Wars Weekend, May 5-7.Sing-a-long with the movie musical "The Sound of Music," On Mother's Day Weekend, May 12-14, at Chesapeake Bay (VA). Enjoy a movie under the stars with your Mom at the giant outdoor movie screen at Idyllwild (CA) on Mother's Day Weekend May 12-14. The folks at Little Diamond (WA) will screen the movie, "Grumpier Old Men" at the Family Lodge the weekend of May 19! Kick off Memorial Day weekend at Tranquil Timbers (WI) with an outdoor movie on Friday night plus wagon rides through the campground, crafts, bike decorating, and a bike parade! Shake off the cobwebs with members at Twin Mills (IN) during Cabin Fever Weekend, May 19-21 and catch the Pie Social and Outdoor Movie Night! The first outdoor movie at Yukon Trails (WI) will be on Mother's Day Weekend!

Mini-Golf Tournaments

Show off those putt-putt skills at these miniature golf tournaments!
Sign up for a chance to win prizes at the Mini-Golf Tournament at Harbor View (VA)
on May 6. Kids can enjoy a game of mini-golf with their moms and grandmas Mother's Day weekend at Arrowhead (WI). There will be a mini-golf tourney Memorial Day weekend at Yosemite Lakes (CA) and Pio Pico (CA) so be sure to join in on this kick-off to the summer season! The folks at Indian Lakes (IN) and Carolina Landing (SC) will be enjoying mini-golf among other fun games like cornhole, basketball and horseshoes for a Memorial Day and Member Appreciation Weekend.

Live Entertainment

Dance the night away with live music or sing your heart out at karaoke. Whatever you do, remember to have fun at Thousand Trails and Encore campgrounds.
Join us at Pacific City (OR) on Memorial Day weekend for Ernie Kropf Karaoke on Saturday night and then on Sunday, Scott Davis entertains us with an afternoon magic show and a night of karaoke! entertains us on Sunday with an afternoon magic show and then a night of karaoke. Plymouth Rock (WI) will be bumping with Friday night's Sound and Light DJ and Saturday night live music! Don't miss a bbq and dancing to live music under the stars at Bay Landing (TX) for their Memorial Day Celebration and Member Appreciation. Kenisee Lake (OH) will show members appreciation with a live performance from the Facemeyer Band and dance and sing along with DJ Rabbit on Sunday. Enjoy a weekend of fun and games at Wilmington (OH) during the Memorial Day Extravaganza! Dance to the American Made Band on Saturday night, Chuck Graf on Sunday, and enjoy the first weekend the pool and spa are open!

Contests & Raffles

Catch the "big one" or enter a raffle for sweet prizes all around the country! 
Watch your kids catch the "big one" at the Annual Fishing Derby at Paradise (WA) on Mother's Day Weekend (May 12-14). Over at PA Dutch Country (PA), moms and kids can enter the Mother/Child Lookalike Contest also the weekend of May 12. The following weekend, the folks at Little Diamond (WA) will also host their annual fishing derby and awarding prizes for the longest trout! Break out your tackle and bait at Scotrun (PA) May 20-21 for a Fishing Tournament Weekend as well. Who will be the "Where's Waldo" champion at Horseshoe Lakes (IN). Find out the weekend of May 20-22 and the best clue prizes will be given away! Join in on some good, old-fashioned fun at Chestnut Lake (NJ) for a scavenger hunt, kickball, volleyball, beach bag toss and more the weekend of May 20-21. Back by popular demand at St. Clair (MI) is Casino Night Part I the weekend of May 19. Play with free chips and win raffle tickets for fabulous prizes! You must be 21 or older to play, but don't forget that there is Candy Bar Bingo for the kids!


Who doesn't love a parade? We love when campers can show their patriotism, show off their cute pets, and be themselves at these awesome parades celebrating the start of summer!
Catch the Memorial Day Pet Parade at Russian River (CA) on Monday, May 29! Ribbons and prizes will be awarded for "Cutest Pet," and "Funniest Pet" costumes! It's time to dress up those pampered pets at South Jetty (OR) and enter them in the pet parade also on Memorial Day! No pet is too big or small, and we've got categories for them all! Be sure to also join in on the "Haute Dog" celebration and bring your favorite pet photo to enter in the "Pet-Folio" for a souvenir to take with you. The folks at Williamsburg (VA) will host a patriotic parade plus other activities for Memorial Day like a cookout, fishing derby, patriotic arts and crafts, and live entertainment. At Yukon Trails (WI), Memorial Day weekend will be filled with picnics, parades, a flag ceremony, cookouts, root beer floats, and more fun! Don't miss the homemade donuts all weekend. Kids can participate in the create-your-own Hot Rod craft and hit up the pit stops for treats at the Kid's Hot Rod Parade around the Arrowhead (WI) campground, the weekend of May 19. Come out and celebrate the first long weekend of the season at Indian Lakes (IN) and dress up your golf cart or bikes for the parade to honor our vets and heroes for their service. The folks at Pio Pico (CA) will also have a special bike and cart parade for Memorial Day! The Golf Cart and Bike Parade at Kenisee Lake (OH) will take place on Saturday May 27 and remember to participate in another Kenisee favorite activity- tie-dyeing!

Yard Sale

Out with the old and in with the new! Check out these campground-wide yard sales where you can sell your wares to make room for new ones!
Kick off May at Green Mountain (NC) with some spring cleaning and selling those extra items at the campground-wide yard sale the weekend of May 5. We can't wait to see what treasures may be revealed at the Spring Flea Market Weekend at Rondout Valley (NY) the weekend of May 5. Remember to bring your items to sell! Out with the old and in with the new they say at Lake & Shore (NJ)! Saturday May 20 is the day to get rid of all your unwanted stuff and for special sales at the Camp Store at Lake & Shore at their Yard Sale Extravaganza. Opening weekend at Chesapeake Bay (VA) is Memorial Day Weekend and in addition to a craft sale, expect a full schedule packed with pickleball, cornhole and horseshoe tournaments, plus a member appreciation lunch! Let the summer begin. Be sure to bring with you any items you're interested in selling at the Campground Yard Sale at Circle M (PA) on Memorial Day Weekend and end the holiday with Member Appreciation festivities!

The Flower Fields

For more than sixty years, Mother Nature has transformed the rolling hills of North San Diego County into one of the most spectacular and coordinated displays of natural color and beauty anywhere in the world. The nearly fifty acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers that make up the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch in Carlsbad, CA, are in bloom for approximately six to eight weeks each year – from early March through early May.

Rhythm & Brews Music and Craft Beer Festival

Join fellow craft beer aficionados to celebrate what sets San Diego beer apart from the rest - both its breweries and its enthusiasts.
