Cultus Lake

Throughout January and February: All activities are member generated. Come down to the Family Centre and have a card night or a pool tournament with your friends; it is up to you! The Family Centre is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.


Pacific City

January 18-19: Annual wood carvers show at Chinook Winds Casino.

February 1: Hot dog roast in the fireplace and Championship Football Pre-Game Snack Day. Bring a sample of your favorite football snack and the recipe for sharing.

February 2: Championship Football Sunday Game on the big screen TV, bring your favorite snacks and beverages and enjoy the game.

February 15: Presidents' celebration features Abe's silver dollar toss game, George's cherry tree hunt and pie eating contest. Plus cookie decorating and Fireplace Social with s'mores.


Birch Bay

Annual Ring of Fire and Hope/31st Annual Birch Bay Waterslides Polar Bear Plunge/2nd Annual Broom Hockey Tournament
Events are held waterfront by the Birch Bay Chamber Visitor Information Center, 7900 Birch Bay Drive, just 1 mile from the preserve. Be part of an annual tradition and enjoy these events. Ring of Fire event begins at 7 p.m. on December 31. Polar Bear Plunge is at noon on New Year's Day, followed by the Hockey Tournament at 1 p.m. For information call 360.371.5004.



Verde Valley

Throughout January and February: Pickleball daily at the courts. The Homestyle Grill restaurant is open daily at 8 a.m. serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner (closed Mondays/Tuesdays.) Pool tourneys Fridays/Sundays/Mondays at 7 p.m. and Wednesdays at 2 p.m., Penny Pokeno Mondays at 2 p.m., Wii Bowling league Wednesdays at 2 p.m. and Mondays/Sundays at 7 p.m., Karaoke Tuesdays at 7 p.m., Card Bingo Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday night entertainment with Hired Hands Band at 6 p.m.


Lake Minden

January 3-5: Celebrate National Soup Month: Bring a soup recipe to share and we'll start a Cooks on Wheels Cookbook that we will be adding to all year. Cook up your favorite pot of soup and share it at a Soup Potluck Social. Bring a prize in a brown paper bag and stay for Brown Bag Bingo. Join us Saturday for the first Candy Bar Bingo and Ice Cream Social of 2014.

January 10-12: National Fruitcake Toss Day: Join us Friday night for a Baked Potato Potluck Social, a family movie or Brown Bag Bingo. Hate fruitcake? Saturday bring a fruitcake and join us for the first Lake Minden Fruitcake Toss. A prize will be awarded for the fruitcake tossed the farthest. Love Fruitcake? Bring a fruitcake recipe for our Cooks on Wheels Cook Book.

January 17-19: Chili Cook Off: Don't be chilled to the bone, bring your best pot of chili and join us for a Chili Cook-Off and Potluck Social. Bring a copy of your favorite chili recipe and will add it to the Cooks on Wheels Cookbook. Create a cover for your cookbook in a craft class.

January 24-26: Cabin Fever: Cure your cabin fever with the four Cs, Coffee, Company, Cards and Crafts. Not into cards or crafts, check out our book and puzzle collection. Join us for the Friday Night Taco Potluck Social, Brown Bag Bingo and Saturday Candy Bar Bingo and the Ice Cream Social.

January 31-February 2: Football Weekend: Are you ready for some football? We'll kick off the weekend on Friday night with an indoor "Tailgate" Potluck Social. We'll make the Chili Dogs, you bring your favorite game day addition and we'll share good food and football trivia. Not into football? Learn how to combine color and texture for a dramatic effect in a Scrapbooking or Greeting Card Workshop; bring your photos and scrapbook two pages or make some great greeting cards. Sunday watch the Big Game on the Big Screen.

February 7-9: Winter Olympics Games Opening: In celebration of the Winter Olympics we'll have a Russian cuisine inspired Potluck. Friday make Valentine's Day cards. We'll have the Olympic opening ceremony and games on the big screen TV in the Adult Lodge. Don't forget Candy Bar Bingo and the Ice Cream Social.

February 14-16: Valentine's Day Join us Friday Night for a Valentine's Day Spaghetti Potluck Social. Bring a sweet prize in a brown paper bag and stay for Sweet Heart Brown Bag Bingo. Come in and watch the Olympics on the big screen TV.

February 21-23: Coffee and Cookie Share Social: Beat those winter time blues! Just say "NO!" to Cabin Fever! Bring your favorite homemade cookies and recipes and share cookies, coffee, and conversation at a Cookie and Coffee Social. Sign up for the Friday Night Baked Potato Potluck Social and stay for Brown Bag Bingo. Saturday drop in for Candy Bar Bingo and the Ice Cream Social.

Morgan Hill

Throughout January and February: Manager's Meeting - First Saturday of every month; Member Appreciation Event - Third Saturday of every month.

Palm Springs

January 11: "The Charlie Ferris Show" is a musical stroll through time featuring smooth, high quality renditions of classic songs of the 50s, 60s, 70s and more. Remember, reminisce, sing along or sit back and enjoy. January 18: Recording artists, Bernie and Milly Loewen are returning to perform the finest in old country, folk and old gospel. Come and enjoy their upbeat singing in harmony accompanied by keyboard and guitar.

February 8: Horseshoe Tournament: Members gather at Palm Springs for this tournament. February 22: Casino Night is our fund raising activity for "Christmas for Kids Spark of Love" program. We have Blackjack tables and Texas Hold'em tables. Many of our local businesses donate prizes for our raffle. It's a lot of FUN for a good cause.

Palm Springs International Film Festival

San Diego International Auto Show
Held at the San Diego Convention Center, just 25 miles from the preserve, event features over 30 car manufacturers.

February 1-28
The Love Train
Sip fine wines while enjoying a romantic train ride. Enjoy breathtaking coastal scenery as we ride up and down the San Diego coast. Partake in guided historic strolls as we get on and off the train for lunch and tastings at the local wineries (about 18 wines!). This special tour is offered throughout the month of February. Rancho Oso

Throughout the Season: Guided trail rides are available daily for ages eight and over and fun hand-led rides for ages 7 and under. Please call ahead for reservations. Don't forget to visit our ranch animals at the stables. Saturday and Sunday activities are subject to change. Breakfast at Stone Lodge will be served from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m., Saturday and Sunday. Saturday Dinners will be served on New Years, Martin Luther King, and Presidents Day weekends. Our Saturdays will be filled with fun including wagon ride, candy bar bingo, ice cream social, scavenger hunt and wine tasting. The Country Store will be open for DVD rentals, snacks, drinks, etc. Ring in 2014 with snacks and goodies provided by Rancho Oso. Party runs from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Goleta Butterfly Grove
Monarchs are usually found in Goleta, California, just 25 miles from the preserve from mid-November through mid-February and docents are available on weekends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. during these months. The Goleta Butterfly Grove (Ellwood Main) is in the Sperling Preserve on the Ellwood Mesa in Goleta. Free parking is available. Bring your telephoto lens!

January 18: Member Appreciation Weekend: Come join the Lake Conroe Crew so we can show you how much we love and appreciate our members. There will plenty of games and food to keep you on the go and full for the weekend.

January 25: Texas Trivia Weekend: Do you know where the birthplace of the Texas Flag is? Come Join us for a weekend full of Texas Trivia.

February 1: Football Weekend: Come join the great bowl party we have intended for you. You can show off your team spirit and colors.

February 8: Winter Olympics Weekend: Have you ever tried our Texas Winter Olympics? If not, join us and see how we do the winter games.

February 15: Valentine's Weekend: Chocolate, hearts, flowers and lovers! This weekend is all about showing your special someone how much you love them.

Medina Lake

January 4: Game Show Weekend: Remember the oldie, but goodie, game shows like Match Game? We'll be playing that game along with other old and new games. Let's celebrate January birthdays and anniversaries during our Ice Cream Social.

January 10-11: Top of the Trail will be having a Fish Fry on Friday. On Saturday let's play Ice Cream Bingo, Candy Bar Bingo and Mystery Bingo. Don't forget the craft sale and kids crafts.

January 18: Member Appreciation Weekend: Free ice cream during Ice Cream Social. Let's bring our outdoor games inside where it's warm.

January 25: Card Game Weekend: Come play Poker Run, Blackjack and let's win some ice cream and snacks playing Card Bingo.

February 1: Birthday Weekend: We'll celebrate February birthdays and anniversaries. We'll play games we played as children - put away your cell phones and computers and have fun!

February 2: Football Sunday: Let's cheer our favorite team on to victory while enjoying party trays provided by Top of the Trail Cafe.

February 8: TT's Got Talent: We'll start the day with our talented crafters at our Craft Sale. There will be kids craft as well. Do you sing, dance, tell jokes or do magic tricks? Enter our Talent Show.

February 15: Member Appreciation and Valentine's Weekend features free ice cream during the Ice Cream Social. How well do you know your spouse? Well have the Not-So-Newlywed game, plus Valentine's Buffet and Dance.

February 14-16: Valentine's Day Weekend: We have a delicious pasta buffet with bread, salad and dessert planned for Saturday night's dinner The Not-So-Newlywed Game returns after a barrel full of laughs at last year's game. See which couple, whether newly married or high school sweethearts, know each other better…you might be surprised! Other activities such as the newly introduced Couples Silly Relays and Movie on the Big Screen will top off the weekend. Shawnee Mountain Ski Area/Fernwood Resort
Shawnee Mountain Ski Area, located just 10 minutes from the preserve, is open for day and night skiing. Snow Tubing at Fernwood is now open daily and is just five minutes from Timothy Lake South. Fernwood has some of the best snow tubing in the Poconos. Timothy Lake has discount tickets for both Shawnee and Fernwood which is exclusive to our visiting members. Stop in the Welcome Center and pick up your discount lift and tubing tickets.
