Whale Watching

The gray whales are on the move, returning from their winter breeding grounds in the lagoons of Baja California and heading to their summer feeding grounds in the North Pacific. There are plenty of opportunities along their route to catch a glimpse of these majestic mammals. Our Pacific coast locations provide the perfect opportunity to stay with us and schedule a tour or two and see if you can spot one of these beauties.

Birch Aquarium, near California’s Pio Pico preserve, hosts twice-daily cruises throughout March. For information and reservations call (619) 234-4111. The week of March 23-30 is designated as Whale Watch Week on the Oregon coast and trained volunteers will be present at 24 sites along the coast to show visitors gray whales. Sea Lion Caves, located in Florence, near the South Jetty preserve, and Cape Kiwanda, near our Pacific City preserve, are just a few of the convenient Oregon locations.
