Postcard From The Road

Queen of the Road

The Blue Ridge Parkway, the 469-mile incredibly scenic stretch of highway between Virginia and North Carolina turns 75 in 2010. To commemorate this milestone for “America’s Favorite Drive,” a series of celebrations and more will kick off on November 13-14 and culminate with a commemorative weekend September 11, 2010. Construction began in 1935 as part of Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal and it was the first national rural parkway to be developed for the new American pastime of leisure road trips. The parkway connects Shenandoah National Park in Virginia with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina and offers some of the most breathtaking scenery in America.
