The Bridges of Parke County

One of the 31 historic covered bridges throughout Parke County, the Mecca Covered Bridge was built in 1873 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. According to local lore, when crossing a covered bridge, youngsters recite “Make a wish and hold your breath as we go through. If you can hold it all the way your wish will come true!” Plan to visit these beautiful bridges set against the perfect backdrop of Indiana’s colorful fall foliage October 9-18 during the annual Covered Bridge Festival. Maybe your wish will come true! For information on the festival visit www.coveredbridges.com.
